The Preamble
The Preamble to the Constitution states the purpose of the Constitution and the principles on which it is based. - The President of Taiwan is the head of state and the head of the executive branch.
- The Legislative Yuan is the highest legislative body in Taiwan.
- The Judicial Yuan is the highest judicial body in Taiwan.
The Rights and Freedoms
The Constitution guarantees the rights and freedoms of the people of Taiwan. The rights and freedoms include the following:
- The right to life, liberty, and property.
- The right to freedom of speech, press, and assembly.
- The right to religion.
- The right to vote.
- The right to a fair trial.
The Amendments
The Constitution has been amended several times since it was adopted in 1946. The amendments have been made to address changes in Taiwan's political and social landscape. The most recent amendment was made in 2005. The amendment revised the provisions on the election of the President and Vice President. It also established a new constitutional court.
